Stripe API Key Setup

The following instructions are exampled on Stripe "Test Mode" but the process for provisioning production keys is the same.



Step 1: Navigate to the Stripe API Keys Dashboard

Step 2: Create Restricted Key

Permissions to Grant

  • PaymentIntents: Write
  • PaymentMethods: Write

Step 3: Securely Share Keys with Butter

The key is generated. Copy the key to your clipboard to prepare to share it with Butter in whatever secure method is preferred. We recommend OneTimeSecret if you don’t have an alternative secure messaging system in place.

Instructions for sharing via OneTimeSecret:

  1. Navigate to onetimesecret.com
  2. Paste the key in the message box, and use Butter_Key as your passcode.
  3. Select Create a secret link.
  4. Once the secret is created, do not open the link: it is a one-time use link that will expire after it is opened.
  5. Copy the secret link and send the link via email to [email protected], where the key will be accessed and stored securely.
