Overview
Beyond surface level attributes, BIN data will allow us to understand the following questions for improved ICR:
Can this card be used by this vendor for this purchase
Domestic only, Gambling blocked, Express benefit transfer
Error code additional mapping
By knowing the underlying network and bank we can go to the network to find more explicit error codes (PSPs provide a mapped view of errors)
Determine if card type is worth using given error code
Reloadable/Gift cards/Preloaded - cannot be reloaded so insufficient funds would mark this card as empty
Express benefit transfer - Government benefits are not eligible for many types of purchase
Cost reduction
Determine next best card to attempt (card rotator) based on BIN acceptance rates (reduce retry attempts)
Understand expected cost of using this BIN (network fees vary by BIN)
Dispute and Fraud monitoring
Fraud rules will differ by issuer
Disputes rate differ by BIN
Success and error rates correlation between API messages and BIN
Absence or presence of API values by PSP will correlate with higher or lower success rates
Banking rules
Specific countries will have varying rates of success by BIN
Specific currencies will have different success rates by BIN
